It is represented in the form of a machine-readable data displayed on the visual surface. A bar code is found normally on consumer products and is specifically used for the purposes of inventory control. A computer can decode the bar code by visually scanning the pattern of bars, through which the record information regarding the item like its quantity sold and price can be achieved from the database.
